The St James' Music Foundation

Our Mission

The specific objectives of St James’ Music Foundation are to provide financial and other assistance from time to time to enable the production and performance of:

  • sacred and secular music, with a particular focus on choral and pipe organ music
  • sacred and secular dramatic works and artistic performances
  • sacred and secular performances of dance and movement, at or in association with St James’

Foundation Structure

The St James’ Foundation Limited, a company limited by guarantee, and is the trustee for The St James’ Music Foundation. The company has received the appropriate approvals from the Australian Government allowing donations to the Foundation to be tax deductible. The intention is to raise a capital sum sufficient to yield a return to fund the ongoing music program at St James’ Church, King Street. Currently we believe that a capital sum of $20 million will be needed to provide sufficient funding for this purpose. The St James’ Music Foundation alone has provided $6.53 million to St James’ Church, King Street since inception, slowing the capital growth.

Donations are being sought from corporations, and individuals, with appropriate recognition given to donors’ generosity.

What your support makes possible

That $6.53 million sustains the choir, the pipe organ and the musicians who play them at St James’ Church, King Street. The Foundation also backs emerging talent through organ and choral scholarships, giving young musicians a place at one of Sydney’s finest instruments while they study.

Recent scholars have performed at St Paul’s Cathedral in London and St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle, and have had original compositions performed at the Sydney Opera House. You can read about them on the Scholarships page.
